Keyword Elite 2 versus Market Samurai (Plus Bonus!)

Keyword Elite 2.0 is the new kid on the block. People are saying that it is hot, however how does it compare to the current favorite Market Samurai?. I have been using it this week to get a good feel for it. You may already be familiar with Market Samurai the current premium keyword tool. I am a beta tester for both so I have decided to put together a comparison to help you decide on the right tool.
Keyword Elite 2
The new package has a lot of additional modules than the first one. It has more bias towards PPC and CPA which are both hot topics right now. The software is PC based (this sucks) and is clean looking with a fast loading interface.
Keyword Surge
Grab a small or large list to zoom in on a keyword list. It draws from Google, Yahoo and Bing. Ask.com and Google suggest. You can narrow down by using a filter to have the core words in the word.
Market Research Slueth
This where you can look for profitable markets. This is based around keywords and can search for pages with the keyword in the title. Once results are returned you can look at position in the search engine and also the estimated clicks per day. Search trends for a year are also displayed here.
Search Engine Dominator
You can type in your domain name and see what the competition is up to. You can see the number of words that appear on the page, the density, the number of times the phrase appears in the title , link, alt tag , description and meta tags among others.. The process of looking at the top ten sites is a partially valid measure of SEO effectiveness however I prefer IBpromoter for this specific function. It has a more detailed report and is devoted to this process. (Great for online to offline consulting if you do that).
Adwords Time Machine
This function allows you to look at Google ads over time. By using this tool you will be able to identify what the successful affiliates are up to. Use it to model from other peoples campaigns. You can pull a keyword list from each advertiser and get momentum straight away. You get the data in hindsight straight away. This ONE feature is the reason you need to buy Keyword Elite 2.
Adwords Competition Sniper
Find out what your competition is up to with a specific search. You can set the schedule to to check on the ads at pre-set times. You can see which ads are repeating.
Google Adsense site targeter
This feature lets you search for Adsense ads on sites by keyword. You can see the Alexa traffic volume and the PR of the sites. You can sort on the traffic volume and then see where you can advertise. Go and see the site and place it into the site targeting campaign in Google. you can also use the whois function to see who owns the site and perhaps contact them to take a direct ad. Up until now I have been using SiteSniperPro to do more or less the same thing.
JV Diamond Finder
Look for people who have newsletters. It ranks sites that display a name capture option on the site. Once you sort by Alexa rank you can see who has the list you can market to by arrangement.
CPA Magnet
This searches CPA networks for offers to promote. It is powered by Offer vault and Affiliate Elite. You can get a similar service as Affspy.com. You can check out the payout, sale percentage etc… just like clickbank.

Drawbacks?
Keyword Elite 2 only works in windows. This is a major drawback for the growing army of Mac users. Hopefully they will run on Air on the future. It is also not designed with SEO or linking in mind. The focus is on keyword finding rather than the bigger picture. You will still need other tools to do the rest off the stuff that you need to do for high rankings.
Market Samurai
This tool is more for the niche marketer who wants to pick the low hanging SEO fruit. The keywords are researched against some pretty cool indicators like a competition filter. You can find out what will rank well but still get search volume.
Keyword Research
This module is FREE and always has been. It is fast and effective. They are constantly innovating this area and I predict they will be continuing development here in a full scale way.
Rank Tracker
Track the rank of your site of your site in the search engines over time. Monitor backlinks and pagerank as well.
Content Module
Find content for re-publishing, spinning, getting ideas for articles etc..)
Analyze Competition
Check the on-page, off-page analysis with advanced pagerank analysis of backlinks and anchor text. You can even reverse engineer your competition linking network. (NEW!)
Monetization Module
Monetize your blog with ads built using the profit pulling suggestions the tool inserts for you. Send to blogs within minutes.
Secret Module

Overall summary
These tools are totally different. If you are a clickbank affiliate then KE2 will have many of the features you need. The PPC ad watching aspect and JV finder may be very useful. if you are building blogs and getting SEO traffic then Market Samurai is complete. I think Market Samurai returns more accurate key phrase (on the markets I tested).
Verdict
I cannot live without Market Samurai and Keyword Elite 2 is a welcome addition to the resources I use. (I just wish it worked on the mac). I like market Samurai the most of all the tools I use. It is the main tool I need for what I do with PPC/SEO keyword research. If you want to watch advertisements and find adsense ad spots then KE2 is awesome. It will show you where the ads are and the better ones. It will tell you who is building a list and also what you can sell.
How do you use your tools?
If you are a hardcore SEO and PPC Niche Marketer then Market Samurai combined with IBPromoter are my perfect choice. If you are a clickbank affiliate or you like to dabble in CPA then Keyword Elite will let you generate huge PPC lists, identify competition, choose offers and place ads.

One of the best and most thorough (and honest) product reviews of KW Research tools I’ve read in quite sometime.
When grow up, I’m gonna have to get me a Mac. Until then, looks like us PC slackers will have to endure and hope Kelite2 won’t crash too often.

I know it sounds crazy but I just wont use KE2 nearly as much as MS because of that one reason. The mac is way better as a content and marketing machine.
It is also way better for traveling.
(Especially keynote for presenting which I do a lot)

I love Market Samurai……I used to be a big fan of tool that could spy on ppc and other campaigns…but with tools like your page creator james….now those features seem useless.

I am a HUGE Market Samurai fan and have been using it since it started as a beta with the 30 Day Challenge. It is, without question, the single most important application I use.
I am a MAC guy through and through, although I do have some things that I still need to use VM Ware to run.
I am in and out about K-Elite although I have heard excellent things about Brad Callen and his software.
Thank you for a very thorough and VERY honest review. That kind of candor can be hard to find in an industry where commissions can pay bills.

Golly Gosh James you blow me away with your amazing ability to continually present bloody brilliant info and and product reviews that are so informative just wish I could put 1 tenth of it into practice have now bought a MAC-Pro after speaking to you at WIS in Auckland and looking forward to coming to Sydney with a bit of luck and get the real Oil Straight from the Horses Mouth. Quality as always mate – and as someone who also got results from implementing strategies in your Fast Cash webinar you are offering a great bonus here.
Have to say it would take a lot to convert this hard-core Market Samurai user. I used to use KE1 and SEO Elite and now I have Market Samurai I just use it for everything (combined with IBPromoter – another good tool!)
Market Samurai –> export to Excel –> bit of final analysis works for me. Honestly, I wouldn’t be surprised if the Samurai boys add features that match anything KE2 has that they don’t have yet. They are ALWAYS adding great new features to the product.
In the end you need a process to pick a reasonable set of keywords that’s as simple as possible – and has the least number of steps. (Who taught me this…?) And you can get TOO carried away over-analyzing stuff trying to find the PERFECT keyword and never get around to actually IMPLEMENTING anything. (Listen to the reforming perfectionist!) :^)
Anyway – I’m off to do more Market Samurai-ing! Oooh look, another update… 8^)

@Roly – yes IBP is only PC so that is a strike against it for usability. It is exceptional enough for me to have installed VMware on the mac..

- locate things faster
- better controls for managing data
- simple useful commands
- fast operating system
- great for video, pictures and sound editing
- intelligent with plugins
- has most stuff built in like camera, audio, drivers etc…

Thanks for the review. I’m a Mac guy too, and even though I have a notebook PC I could use, I much prefer to work on the Mac. Checked out your MS download link and discovered they have a 40 day free trial. That tipped the scales for me. I am a big believer in trialware.

I am currently using Market Samurai’s trial software. The software has some really nice features but my main gripe with it is it’s speed and responsiveness. It’s bloody slow! and that’s because it’s written in Adobe AIR.
Adobe AIR apps are written in a combination of Flex, Flash, Javascript and Actionscript. Allot of people including myself cannot stand Adobe AIR apps because AIR apps take bucket loads of RAM, and are comparatively slow to respond to user actions. That’s a real shame because the software has some really nice features.

@Wal, great comments. The thing that makes MS on Air so great is the ability to run on a Mac. I find it pretty fast but it will come down to the spec of your hardware.

I recently bought Market Samurai and use it every day. (The only tool I use every day) Market Samurai has a series of videos showing how to use this fantastic tool. The SEO competition module and Rank tracker module are my favorites.
