Domaining For Profits With Kenny Goodman

Posted by James in Domaining, How To, Interview, Lifestyle

Kenny GoodmanAttending Ed Dales ‘30DC Coming Home’ seminar in Melbourne was a very good idea. One of the main reasons I traveled down there was to learn about the art of domaining from world class domain names expert and owner of DomainFace, Kenny Goodman (pictured). I had a hunch this business strategy could have potential and a few months later I can report that it certainly does. Domain buying is my new and exciting business venture.

Great Contacts

Ed Dale (who is a genius web business flipper) invited Kenny as an expert, therefore you cannot get a higher endorsement. The presentation on registering domain names was outstanding. Kenny and I got a chance to catch up and trade resources. Since then he visited Sydney and we have spoken most weeks. Members of my own coaching community were fortunate to attend a private webinar on the subject of domains. It is fair to say that my education on the subject of domaining leaped forward with great speed!

Domains are where it is at!

My business has zero debt and runs cashflow positive. Since my lifestyle situation is sorted, the natural thing to do is to divert some of the profit into investments. What better place to focus some of my resources than into a developmental domains market where I can apply my Internet Marketing knowledge and my business skills.

Passive Cashflow and Asset building

The great things I like about domains are:
- You can buy domains and develop them into passive cashflow machines (zero customer service)
- You can get started with very little capital (from as low as $8 or $9)
- With strategic trading you can buy low and sell high for instant profit taking or a long term play
- Domains are highly liquid and can be sold individually or in bulk to the right buyer
- They will most likely increase in value when the economy becomes buoyant
- All of the Internet Marketing techniques we know can accelerate the profits fast
- Domains are brand-able to the point where you can build a business around them
- With the right tools you can access opportunities and have a market advantage
- There is nowhere near the level of competition as there is in shares or real estate
- You can do this all in relative privacy and from home ;D

Warning: Domain Addiction

I buy domains every single day and my outsource team develops them into valuable assets under my guidance. Now that Kenny has put me onto the very best places to buy domains, sell domains and monetize them I am really enjoying the passive nature of this business and the wealth creation benefits.

Kenny will be coming to FastWebFormula in Sydney in September (details coming soon).  If you are a member of SuperFastResults you can watch the same webinar that started me off here.

FREE Interview

Kenny Goodman just interviewed me and posted it on his blog. When you listen to the interview you will discover how I started in Internet Marketing including how I quit my job, some of the domaining strategies I am utilizing and also the direction I believe domaining will take. Kenny also throws plenty of tips in there for the budding domainer.

Domaining looks exciting. Amazing. Its inter how domains are like real estate. Some blue chip and some duds. The blue chip are pure gold. Can’t wait until Fast Web Formula 2 to hear Kenny speak in person.

The beauty of supply and demand…

…domains become more scarce and the prices go up.

I like the sound of this business model.

Domaining is intriguing – and definitely addictive!
Kenny makes a good point re the GFC and that we can probably anticipate a different business climate online after that lifts…

Agree with you enthusiasm re Domain names and also I am enthused about the need to marry that direction with the social networks worldwide. Of course you are right re owning your own business. Nothing like a cubicle mentality to destroy any potential success.
The challenge is to get away from the narrow and highly disastrous Old School MLM methods. Have a look here: – http://peter-n-shirley.net/?site=VMichaelF
We are now in over 150 countries and over 50 languages and still expanding strongly with people looking for any online top business opportunities.

I think all MLM sucks. The system survives to feed the system not the people. Another example of total lack of control. MLM people are mostly lunatics and the evangelical behavior they often possess is scary as hell. Freedom for me is NOT having to use someone else s system but creating my own systems. Just my opinion.

Amen to the MLM comment! Once again, you hit it dead on!

Whats the difference between MLM and affiliate marketing ? James, just look at the right hand side of your blog here. Are you saying you don’t get paid for advertising Market Samaria etc ? Its all leverage – Hmmm, I looking forward to your reply, thats if you don’t delete this comment.

I don’t know why you think I would delete your comment Barry… Hm let me see. Affiliate marketing revolves around a product that has typically one layer and sometime two of commissions. We recommend the product because we like the product and also we get paid when someone buys it. We are not preaching to the prospect that they too can sell the product and get rich.

MLM is flawed because the focus shifts too heavily from the product to the opportunity of being able to make money from selling the product. This results in a continual wave of zealots selling the dream.
“Nearly all MLM companies selling health-related products exaggerate their value, and the vast majority of people who become distributors do not make significant income” – http://www.mlmwatch.org

In fact I just love this article called “Ten Big Lies of Multi-Level Marking” – http://www.mlmwatch.org/01General/10lies.html Well worth a read.

By the way, If you do want to find great keywords, I recommend Market Samurai. In fact, I promoted it well before I ever had an affiliate link because it is that good.

Thank you for your quick reply. It is possible that Internet Marketers exaggerate their income You said, “We are not preaching to the prospect that they too can sell the product and get rich” What about all those so called “IM: with sales pages exposing how good there product/s are. I feel at the end of the day, if the product adds valve to a persons life, and they are happy doing so, well good on them and god bless. I see alot of similarities between IM & MLM. Are all MLM companies the same… Which industry is the best.

Wavatar James

30. May, 2010

It is true there are ratbags in every industry from politics to banking etc…. The main distinction is this, affiliate marketing is a one or two level sales structure so the product or service being promoted has to stand on its own merits. In MLM often the sales is usually (not always) far more about the PROCESS and opportunity than the product or service. In MLM the ‘product” is really the “MLM scheme” thats what is wrong with it. If you are a skilled Internet marketer you can set up a business with a high degree of success and freedom without having to pimp and commercialize your friends!

James, you re a IM, so well done and you have a large database which you sell products too. I wish you all the best. I feel its best to leave the decision of which industry is best up to the individual. Take Care and God Bless

It is always up to the individual! I don’t sell products – I solve problems with valuable solutions.

I went to a free seminar where James talks and was impressed by his integrity. His focus is on sharing great resources and concepts, many of which are free and powerful. He certainly doesn’t pimp products and has spent seven years in a corporate job studying this stuff before moving out of the corporate world. He thrives on helping businesses and products that have enormous potential gain the attention they deserve. I already knew about Market Samurai before I went. Luckily I got it when it was relatively cheap. Why wouldn’t you recommend something that is so brilliant. The development team come from Melbourne.

I’ve heard from some of my domaining buddies that in 2010 the prices are starting to go back up after the dip from 2008 and 2009 so I’d agree it’s a good time to start buying domains (or buying more).

I prefer to focus on buying generic names that are search terms and then trying to build the site that ranks for that term.

great business model Chris. Great to hear form you again.

I’m buying searched for key phrases, local business specific domains plus brandables. Brandables are great for selling products and establishing a little business.

I’m one of those goofy domainers, as Domain Face’s webpage calls us. Yes, it’s easy to get sucked in – the typical new domain addict….I mean investor…buys names like crazy and doesn’t stop until renewal fees roll around a year later. Take it slow until you know what works.

But after a year of hearing buyers complaints (“Gee, you’re getting $400 for a domain that probably cost you $10-what a racket!”) I took some of my domains that didn’t sell and put up 3 page minisites. Well, one domain that I was told I would be way lucky to get $100 for now makes that much each month on adsense alone. I realized it was the buyers who were making the killing – they just didn’t know it.

So I am big on domains, and think they will really take off when people wake up to their value. In the meantime I’m buying. And I think the best buying days are yet to come – wait until the other shoes drops on the economy. Great names will be had for cheap – if you have the money. And that’s why I’m here….

Hi James, Money can be made in many industries. Multi-Level-Marketing (MLM) is no exception. To see how it is possible, one should speak to those that are successful.

In the same way that Internet Marketing is NOT about the website, Multi-Level-Marketing is NOT about the products.

Many IMers and MLMers do not make any significant money and they either quit, or look for a new opportunity. Those people do not invest in THEMSELVES nor do they work on their mindset.

Both groups share the common approach of attracting prospects by promising “make zillions with your computer”,
and in both cases to achieve 7 figure results one has to be extraordinary and do extraordinary things.

Is it true to say that out of the 100’s of your students only a small percentage (say 5% to 10%) are achieving any significant results in IM?

Those figures are pretty standard for any industry where the payments are only commission based.

Cheers
PS As for MLM watch…Do we truly know who they are? Why do they need to ask for donations?

Wavatar James

31. Aug, 2010

actually my beef with MLM is exactly what you said – it is not about the products – when in fact it should be.

Wavatar Robert Wilks

31. Aug, 2010

Hi James,

I totally agree with you on that point. People sell the opportunity instead of the products, and most do it BADLY.

I am coming to your Fast Web Formula II conference specifically to learn how to market the products I am promoting to the general public on line.

Once I learn that, I can implement that strategy for my top leaders, and thus acquire the leverage of greater sales.

Thus I am eagerly looking forward to FWF2!
