How To Improve Your Online Business Even If you Think There Is Little Hope!

If things have not been perfect for you lately then you may be interested in this post. I recently had a chance to help out an internet marketing friend who visited my house for a ‘Biz tune up’. Hopefully some of the things I showed him will be helpful for you too.

From Bad To Worse??
Matt Bredel is a San Diego based marketer (seems like half the community is there these days!). Matt has been very successful in the markets of Biz Op education and lead generation. Things started to slide when there were changes in the FTC regulations, merchant rules and then to top things off his Ad Words account got slapped (actually closed for EVER!). This is not an uncommon situation for marketers who relied on some effective and lucrative strategies like paid traffic and high converting offers.

The old ‘all your Eggs in the one basket trick’…
If you are single source dependent (a tricky way of saying if you have all of your traffic or all of your income coming from mostly one place) you run the risk of losing it when rules or systems change. The flip side is diversification. You can be so ‘diversified’ that you have no focus and cannot get traction in any one thing….

How to protect your business
The solution is to be diversified within a focused segment. In my case I am almost exclusively focused on internet marketing. I apply my skills and techniques across many markets globally and with a range of clients spanning private right through to high-end corporate. I have traffic from many sources both offline and online and I deal retail B2C and wholesale B2B. I receive incoming funds from affiliate checks, clickbank, paypal, offline merchant accounts, and direct bank transfers. This means I have a fairly robust business that is not prone to failure if Google, Facebook, Paypal or a merchant provider try to change the rules.

How you can get fixed up
Over the course of well over four hours Matt Bredel and I (at my home lab in Sydney) plastered some whiteboards with notes and action items. I broke down the process bit by bit to rebuild his business with what he already had in place (plus a few minor suggested changes).

The core things to focus on when rebuilding your online business are:
– Assess what strengths, assets and passions you already have working for you
– Identify your (perceived) constraints and FLIP them on their head
– Shatter through your assumptions with NEW perspective
– Launch a LEVERAGE power strike that is SO simple yet hardly ever done!!!
– Implement an ACTION plan like your life depends on it!

Insider Copywriting Perspective
When visiting John Carlton recently I had a chance to meet and interview Bond (Bondodog) Halbert. What a privilege it was to gain deep insights into copywriting from the man who Gary Halbert once said was his greatest student (mentioned in the Boron letters).

Worlds Greatest Copywriter That Ever Lived?
Gary was the worlds greatest copywriter, according to Bond, because he could tackle any market and succeed. Luckily for us, his famous ‘Halbert letters’ are available to read online for free at TheGaryHalbertLetter.com. This is one of the best resources you could ever hope to find online if you are starting out as a copywriter. The greats all tip their hats to Gary as a formidable writer who could cause a cascade of sales with a single letter.

Just Write!!
Bond mentions “don’t be afraid of just writing and writing”. Avoid the ‘billboard’ method if you want to build a relationship with your audience. Consider your buyers actions over your own opinions. The great thing about direct response is your opinion doesn’t matter!

Cover Everything
When you craft a sales message make sure you have it all there – answer all the questions. The higher the price point the more work required to put your sales message across. (I recall John Carlton teaching me this). When preparing the campaign throw up as much as you can then cut cut cut! Most copywriters draft work then come back to it and edit it several times. Yes, write and then re-write, come back to something and ad and ad until you are done.

Gary Halbert was Different
Gary Halbert would talk to many people and get the spiel down and then think about the message over and over again before committing it to paper. John Carlton mentioned to me that Gary would loop the message into conversation over and over again. ‘He would loop it around in his head and ask several times for an opinion on the subject’. Gary would get so close to the sales letter in one go using this technique.

It is NOT all about the writing
Bond suggests you develop the hook and the offer and work with your passion wherever possible. If you have enjoyed the target market as a passion then you can translate that better by rehearsing things mentally. You can get really close to the mark when you already know the lingo of the market.

Bond’s step-by-step checklist
I pressed Bond for some easy shortcuts for new copywriters and he said: “look at what is working
already!!!”. I resonate with this as I teach it exactly the same technique to my students. Next, find the power words, use emotion (since we always sell on emotion). It is important to figure out your concept first then take the ads that are similar in that campaign and break them down. In other words, emulate the current market. All marketers should have a swipe file (a file that has best proven copy). An essential theme I hear over and over again is how you must know your product and target market in depth. New person advice summary – just do it.

“Anything worth doing is worth doing poorly”.
Actually doing things takes so little time compared to what you imagine. Don’t waste time to get things perfect – just get into it. You do not need everything before you start. Gary used to say: “Motion over meditation”. Internet Marketing has a lot of chances to test things compared to direct mail. Use this advantage. Just to move is the key.

‘That thing’
Gary Halbert always looked for the ‘where can I buy this’ reaction from his target. To garner this reaction he would continually ask people to proof read a letter and see if they want to buy it! Gary and Bond trained their marketing antennae to hear anything that resembled a HOOK. The big focus is on the deal, the hook.

The GaryHalbertLetter.com is changing!
Bond is currently re-ordering the Gary Halbert letters into the right sequence. Many people do not realize the letters are currently not in the same order as written. Bond revealed how Gary went through some hard times and went to Born Federal Prison camp. This meant Bond got to see Gary become rich. Bond was famous as the target subject for the Boron Letters (well worth reading!) and instantly became Marketing Royalty (Bond stresses as an Earl not a Duke!). Bond received a marketing education from some of the greats including Gary Halbert, Joe Karbo and Jay Abraham.

Raw honesty
Like father like son, the greatest thing to shine through this interview was the love and honesty Bond and Gary shared as father and son.

Can You Really Be An Offline Business Internet Marketing Consultant Without Experience?

Fellow Australian Marketer Kyle Tully is back for another interview. Kyle and I have been discussing internet marketing for a few years because we share the same views on most topics. This time we talk about offline business consulting and who is qualified to do this model. Both of us have been pursuing this lucrative internet marketing business model for several years.

Early start
Kyle got into marketing at an early age. He came through the traditional Dan Kennedy style of direct response marketing. This is the same sort of material I would recommend all serious marketers get access to. I own every one of Dan Kennedy’s NO B.S books.

Do offline business internet marketers need to be technical?
We discuss technical versus marketing skills. Putting together a business is going to involve some basic technical learning. If you can learn these things even a little you can put your self into a position where you can outsource later anyway. When you outsource the technical stuff you can know what to expect from outsourcing and you can fix things on the spot if you have to. Being able to talk about these things confidently will give you a boost when it comes to talking to offline clients. Professional web clients (corporates) will happily pay you to make small changes. You can outsource this and charge the client. We discussed the ‘done for you’ with a maintenance service model. Kyle says clients want this and I agree.

One time fee or recurring income?
Both Kyle and I were selling one time payment jobs when we started and now we both offer maintenance packages. Maintenance programs are something you should educate clients to have and also something that is very good for them. There are different things you can sell at various price points. (Kyle runs a membership site called Consulting Tycoon) Typical services clients of Kyle will learn are how to sell packages of websites, traffic, SEO (Search Engine Optimization, newsletters, article writing, PPC (Pay Per Click) , followup marketing with auto-responders. You can work within your strengths and clients will happily pay you to learn on the job. Once you learn a skill for a client you can use it for other clients and your own business.

Just do it for yourself or do it for others?
Kyle and I discussed the dream goal of sitting at the beach making money. (Ironic given that I am typing this from the beach house!). We agreed that providing a service for others is a great way to start cash flow and get great experience. We both still serve clients through services and personal content because we can hone our skills. Kyle gets a lot of enjoyment from helping business owners. The average business owner has a very low level of knowledge about Internet Marketing. Even with a small exposure to internet marketing and solid offline consulting strategies you will be able to impress.

Success stories
Some of Kyles students have started out with a good mindset and created a very good business within a short period of time. One of my own Business Internet Formula students (Jock Purtle) pursuing this model generated a six figure contract within a few weeks! We both have seen people do this fast when they apply the methods we teach. I have some templates in my SuperFastResults forum and Kyle has massive content in his membership.

Warning: Not so ethical Internet Marketers
Kyle and I have seen a lot of trashy products coming out in this niche (the ‘offline gold local business’ niche). Many of these were put together by students in dorm rooms with nothing but a taste for opportunity. For example any product that puts a heavy bias on cold calling is missing the point. Many traditional internet marketing experts have cobbled together products (often with a no-name business partner) to serve this hot niche. What you should be looking for is a solid business plan that involves creating a ‘pull marketing’ system (where the client will come to you). You should look for better ways to have clients come to you and they should also be keen to buy from you.

The real deal
Kyle invested over $50,000 in educating himself and formulated direct mail templates that he has included in the membership site that he runs. He has been selling these services to corporates as I have for years. Real experience in the market is irreplaceable when you are looking for someone to model from.

Hot Tips
When asked for advice Kyle suggested people take action and just get started. Start telling people that you are in the business and get going with it. One of the biggest things that is separating Kyles membership from the rest of the products out there is Kyles special Licensing information. Dan Thies Explodes Internet Marketing SEO Myths In This Search Engine Optimization Interview

Dan Thies can be counted on for a controversial SEO perspective and he is qualified too. He is one half of the SEO Brain Trust, a new project for dedicated Search Engine Optimization enthusiasts and students. The other half is Leslie Rohde.

Internet Marketing all-rounder
Dan Thies is a very capable SEO (Search Engine Optimizer) and PPC (Pay Per Click) marketer. He has a very good business mind honed from being in the market for such a long time. If you can get good at both SEO and PPC then you have a great combination for making money online. I respect him very much and he is the man I ran my latest SEO product past before publishing because he knows a lot about this topic. He has a real business mind. We got to catch up and share some fresh information in this interview.

Keyword Strategy
When looking for the right words to use on the site you should use both the obvious ones AND the ones you dig up later through research. You will find they break into general relevance and specific relevance. (Ignore wishful thinking keywords!). Every page is a marketing channel. Traffic to the site will typically be coming to the site through multiple pages so you want to cater to as many relevant key phrases as possible.

Google Changes
Now with the way Google displays results there is a premium on the top few listings in Google. The top few spots are super sought after. The top three listings carry the greatest click through rates. Google are now trialling triple listings in the search results pages (SERPS). This is especially important since explorer browser uses tabbed browsing and this takes up more space.

CTR (Click Through Rate) Statistics
Statistically (over 800 domains) Dan has gathered private data that shows the click through rates of the top three listings. 50% of the clicks go to the top three results. 60% of those clicks go to the top position. In other words, Dan recommends trying to get number one listings for less competitive terms than lower page one rankings for difficult terms. Google are also inserting shopping listings and video listings in the middle of page one on a frequent basis.

SEO is a resources game
Try to do the on-site stuff at once but work on the link building as quickly as you can to get the site making money. Put the profits back into the site and build the amount of links for every possible relevant phrase. Keep using the resources you have to get top rankings for as many phrases as you can.

ACT
ACT stands for Analytics and Conversion Testing. Working on persuasion elements (paying off on the promise) is a deep science that gets huge yields. This is an area Dan is passionate about and deeply specialized. When doing SEO consider that conversions are a HUGE part of the equation because that is the ultimate purpose for a site.Profit comes from traffic multiplied by conversions.

Strategy and tactics
You need to do a lot to stay ranked because the competitors with the deeper pockets will out spend you in maintaining a top SEO listing. The competition moves down to lower and lower competition keywords. You will need to get savvy with SEO because the game is getting beyond article spinning and made for adsense sites. As time goes on more webmasters will be getting smarter.

Short v long
Sometimes the choice keywords are the short ones however not always. Often the longer tail phrases are more profitable. Revenue per click for pay per click ads show that the highest ranked keywords get more clicks and make more money per click. This means you should be aiming high for PPC and SEO using the RIGHT keyphrases.

Using PPC?
Use exact match because broad match sucks. Recently the live quality score has meant that a lot of exact match phrase match ads no longer display. Dan will be releasing a PPC course to cater for these changes. These are being rolled out in brainstrust. PPC and SEO go very well together. Use SEO to locate the traffic for PPC campaigns. You can buy more profits this way. (I run the Google search query report to tell me what key phrases are bringing me the traffic). Having great SEO with great rankings you can expect to have an excellent quality score. I have long advocated the use of both paid and SEO traffic techniques to get a larger part of the pie.

Amateurs days are numbered
We discussed the state of the market where there are some low quality operators out there jamming out spun content and fully automated blogs. Dan predicts they will get wiped out if they do not pay attention. The only way to play that game is volume related. Sites will get filtered as Google gets smarter and dials up the sensitivity. Dan prefers working on real sites with real content. The hybrid method Dan suggests revolves around having both the money sites and the content sites.

Daily original content
Have an assistant screen topic related RSS feeds and within 30 minutes create 10 pages of content. It is a useful human driven content aggregation system. We discuss the feedwordpress and wp-o-matic plugins for Wordpress. Putting fresh content on each site allows you to have a bigger site than your competitors by using the inbound links that are on each page pointing back to the page you need. The next step is to do this outside your site by building feeder sites that are building links to your but this is even more effective if you build links to your linkwheel sites. The more links you have and the more pages you have the more rank you can expect.

Useful Tools for Internet Marketing
Excel spreadsheets and RSS reader tools are handy for workflow management. Dan uses Delicious bookmarking for his outsource team. He bookmarks anything he wants his team to create links for and they automatically start linking. Using automation for Facebook, Twitter or some similar device is a very smart idea. Always offer readers a Twitter or Facebook sharing button option. (HINT – this blog post has one!)…. We are programmed to help share awesome content when we find it. Do whatever you can to get do to get a large fan base. Facebook fan pages are a good idea (and possibly better than an opt-in list according to Dan).

Great content is easy
Every page that carries good content can give to more links to your sites, enter your market as the bookmarking site for that industry and bookmark your own stuff too. If you can get user generated content you are ahead of the game.

Is PageRank still important?
What matters far more is whether Google is indexing your page and is the cache date up to date. Dan says pagerank is nothing to be obsessing about, he does not even look at it. Google originally intended the PR device as a value ad for the toolbar. It probably helped them to get a lot of tool bars into the browser of the civilian market. Professional SEO’s need not worry about the PR toolbar.

Getting links
If you need links just go to a forum and post. The closer the forum is to topic related matter the better the link. Answering posts in forums gets you links to your site. You can use the search function and find topics that are on theme. You don’t need monthly high PR backlink reports.

Blind Internet Marketer Reveals Winning Mindset Secrets

Matt Wadsworth is not (yet) a big player teaching IM however he runs a great niche online business. I met Matt in Dubai where we were both speaking to a new emerging market of Internet marketing students.

Strategy
Matts success in the niche markets depends on a specific strategy. He went looking into this business because he wanted more money than he earns as a classical musician. Going from a specialist to an internet marketing expert forced some great habits that others can learn from.

Knowing why you want to be an internet marketer is more important than doing the processes themselves. A specific focus around mindset is essential before you get too far into the ‘tactics’.

Doing the right things
5% of what you do will get 95% of the results. The internet is a business and knowing what your objectives are from the outset will help you be more effective, Matt suggests stepping away from the computer first to plan a little. You will also need persistence and perseverance to get success. Don’t expect things to happen automatically from the start. Once your business grows you can then automate and leverage.

Desperate mindset
I asked Matt about his attitude towards money. We both found that by NOT focusing on just money we can get more of it. We both focus on delivering value to as many people as possible. Taking responsibility for your own financial well being rather than expecting others to provide you a magic carpet ride is the surest way to get ahead fast. Being able to generate your own income is a very empowering thing.

Tear up your ‘excuse list’
When it comes to reasons why people cannot succeed Matt has got some perspective. Matt has been blind since birth. In this interview Matt explains how he makes money online without sight. One very important point Matt makes is how much better you can focus when you have less distractions. Knowing where to put attention is key in Internet Marketing. I say write down every excuse you have for not making money online and the ‘tear up your excuse list’. One of my many mentors Bruce Dyer taught me this years ago when I was a young sales person.

How does a blind marketer do internet marketing?
This is the easy bit according to Matt. A software program called ‘JAWS’ speaks out all the text on Matts screen. He is very adept at keyboard shortcuts too! The internet has made it easier for people who are in a similar situation to him. Accessibility on the web is improving for all of us it seems.

More with less
Matt can do all of this without some of the software items we can use. We do not need to have the latest brightest objects all the time. The other thing that Matt has developed to a great level is outsourcing. He has a team of people who have become his ‘eyes’. I notice Matt asks others for their opinions on the way things ‘look’ so that he can triangulate an opinion on the object of his focus.

Decision time
We discussed decision making ability. What we have now is the result of decisions we have made in the past. Looking back to assess decisions is a good technique for refining your future decisions. Match your business to your skill set and make decisions based upon that. What has gone well for you in the past? How can you bring more of that into you future. Find what you are good at and do more of it. Teach it and transfer it to others.

Simple truth
Generally when things are simple – not everyone is not doing it so it can cause you huge success. Matt gives the example of the website. Many people make it the big focus but the website is the last step. First you need to plan out the program. An important step is to identify a team to get around you, Find someone who is doing really well at what you need help with. Then you want to focus on traffic and conversions. The traffic must go to an offer and the conversions is turning the traffic into a customer. Matt like Joint Venture traffic. This is where you get others to promote and you pay them commission. You get paid to build a list.

Build the system
There are plenty of broke web designers around so focus more on the building of the system rather than the website. Matt likes creating his own product instead of selling other peoples products. Solving a problem is the key to selling more stuff since people pay for solutions. Do the things you are good at and get others to do the things you are not good at.

Buy with bonus strategy
When selling an affiliate offer create a bonus to give away. Find something that is already selling and create a complementary product. Offer it for free and you now build a list of clients from the market that you can now up-sell to. Buyers will jump at the chance to get a free bonus. The other product owners in the market will all approach you to sell their products and offer you special privileges.

Research tip
Looking around to see what is already selling is a great way to determine which products to create. Matt likes looking at the sales pages in the market and getting a feel for the bullet points. Check the magazine racks in the local store and if there is a magazine then you are in with a great chance.

We discuss Fear…
In public forums asking basic questions can often get you ‘flamed’. Success is all about failing fast, Falling down a few times is fine because it is likely to happen when you are starting anything new. Matt discusses why failing is a cultural thing we often fear. We discussed why a lot of out childhood programming and the school system is not really ideal for being an entrepreneur. We should question everything and be prepared to taking risks. Compared to buying a franchise we have very low risk online.

Free can be damaging
Some marketers ‘try’ internet marketing for free. It can be very hard to make money online using free things. Once you get serious and have a few paid options your business can scale much faster. Examples, a professional auto responder will outperform a free server based email auto responder system. Paid hosting is FAR better than free hosting where they display free ads on your prime real estate.

Invest in experience
Failures are just an investment in experience. Buying training, coaching or mentoring can be an excellent decision when you feel you will be better off and you will get a return on your investment. When you buy resources you are better to consume them as quickly as possible. You will get better value if you can dive into some work in transit time or traveling. Reduce notes down to bullet points and implement as soon as you can. Key action items in order will help you get the high value from the timing of new information. Set your self a time limit of a few days.

Lifestyle
Matt agrees. If we can do it other people can do it. There are people out there doing very well so we should find it easy to be motivated by the fact that it can be done. Things can happen fast when you focus on the reasons why and the strong belief that it is doable. I recommend you focus on your business each month. A small fraction of the tasks you do will be making you the most money. A number of things you do will NOT be making you money. They need to go on your ‘to don’t’ list.

Outsourced leverage
Effort into things that you are good at does not automatically mean you will get rich. Never get too good at the little jobs. Don’t muck around with the little tasks too long if you feel you need to know how everything works. Once you know how to do the task it is time to outsource it. Leverage yourself by automating and systematizing as soon as possible. Realize what the value of the task is and score yourself accordingly.

Matt gets famous
Expect to see Matt Wadsworth speaking at a very high profile yet ‘underground’ event in Washington D.C. Matt will be building his list in the Internet Marketing space now and he feels it is time since he has been proving himself in other niches first. Matt will be helping people with struggles and helping them out when they get stuck. Giving back is very important to Matt.

Final tips
Ask better questions. This will get you better results. Yanik Silver reminds me of this each time I have a brainstorm with him on a maverick tour. Matt adds to this. Ask better questions to better people. Find the best people and ask them. Find the best you can and get the highest level success answer! This is the fastest way to succeed.

Software
We both agree software is the great thing to sell if you have it. It is more complicated to get up and running but has a longer shelf life.

More than meets the eye
You may be wondering what this has to do with internet marketing? That is a fair question and let me answer this. I met Bob on a travel junket. He was paid to go and I paid to go. Slow Sucks….
The topic John chose for me to discuss was how to get well known online FAST. He identified that I have built a rapid trusted profile among the inner circle of Gurus he knows. One of my secrets was using technology to catapult sites above others.

In front is just not good enough
Once you take a top position in the search engines you need to help people (no FORCE) people to take action. This is where John smacked some sense into me!

When I was putting together the product I documented many of the key elements that would cause rapid success inline. Here are but a few of them:

Sell
We all sell. We are not just selling a product or service either. We are often selling an opt-in or a repeat visit to our blog during the relationship building phase. Nothing happens until you learn to sell! John showed me some selling techniques that were shocking at first and then I tried them. Wow. Now I had the entire formula!

Start with the end in mind
Whatever the end goal is, everything you do should support that end. This means having a strategy. If your strategy is to get authority, then all of your communications should support that end goal. This is where having proof can really help. The more proof the more real you become.

What potential constraints are holding you back?
Before you get anywhere you have to have a baseline health, a good mind (attitude) some knowledge and skills, a great business model, time and access to money. You need to get rid of your constraint to free yourself for success.

What John Carlton taught me…
I got a new perspective for writing technique. He taught me that deadlines can really help get a result. Timers can be introduced to speed up deadlines. Make unreasonably generous offers and pretty much invite others to rip you off! This sort of offer is very high converting. I did this with my blog posts and product sites – give stuff away. When you give away valuable content it makes the trust scale swing in your favor.

Tell people they can’t have it.
When you exclude people from an offer it often makes the value of the offering go up. I have noticed this time and time again when I have a ‘take away’ element to my offers. Qualifying people fairly hard can also help reduce refunds and increase stick rates.

Write your own stuff
One trend I notice with most of the great personalities online is they write their own stuff. This extends way past sales letters. We now have the opportunity to write attention grabbing video scripts, twitter posts, Facebook comments, face to face, blog posts and emails. Every time you step in front of another part of your audience you have the power to persuade. use it.

Don’t just get people interested, make them take action!
Many people are existing in a zombie like state and never give ‘thought’ a chance. Now you need to help these people take action. Step it out in a very simple format.

The bit between the ears
If you want to get fast progress you need to have strong desires. Once you have desire your intentions will give you the drive you need to propel forward. Some people simply do not want to do what it takes to move forward. Do you?

The right type of Goals
One method to set goals is to have the right type of goal setting technique. My friend Raymond Aaron teaches the method of setting goals in varying degrees of achievement. Setting goals where you have minimum, target and outrageous levels of achievement will encourage success faster.

The club
To get ahead faster you will need to hang around with the right type of minds. Some of the ‘free’ forum people are the wrong type. Misery loves company and you will find plenty of no-hopers in groups of losers. They complain and moan about what others do to them etc… Instead hang out with smart people and those who already know what it is you are trying to learn. You will progress much faster when you have the right contacts.

Watch what they DO not what they say
Observe what authority figures do (rather than what they say they do). You will have noticed that many Gurus help each other. The mastermind concept is strong.

Filter or get lost
In order to get your priority right you need to be able to filter your opportunities. The best way to focus on the RIGHT things is to know what things you should focus on in advance. The type of activities you should be focusing on are: recurring leveraged, addicted buyers, evergreen markets.

S.Y.S.T.E.M
Make sure you have a system to manage your workflow and activities. I like to use a whiteboard and do one project at a time. This makes life easier! If you use bookmarks for common tasks you can place them on your browser bar for faster access. Use a timer to keep your work into bite size chunks.

Get Social
Using social media will leverage your voice online and help you find your audience. I recommend twitter, facebook, Youtube and posting to your own Blog. Going into forums will elevate your profile fast as long as you contribute.

Get live
Go to live events. This will get you closer to the action. Make sure you get a photo of you and your expert of choice. This WILL come in handy sooner than you think. You can use it to promote the products of these people and when you SELL stuff they will pay attention.

Build a connection
Next time you see them mention to them you sell their product and they will probably talk to you longer or invite you for a drink. You can meet almost all the experts near the bar at a popular event if it goes on for a few days and is held in a hotel.

Lame, Lame, Lame
Avoid ‘overt’ stalking. You need to me FAR more sophisticated than that. Gurus get emails just about everyday from crazies expecting to be given everything for free. Desperate is very unattractive.

The smarter way…
Use Twitter and Facebook to start up a conversation. Reply to comments and comment on blogs. If you have something useful. Make sure you tag the image of the person in the photo so that Facebook will send them an alert (most gurus have their own name set up as a Google Alert and Twilert).

The secret.
Who do people think you are? Why? you can control that and it is a lot of fun. Play with it…

If you really want to scale up your Internet Marketing business you will have to outsource at some point. Most entreprenuers know this however not all of us are able to do it as well as others. This is when you look to others and see how they do it and get some ideas..

How do you find someone to ask?
Don’t worry about that I’ve found a few young guys who have 80 staff and managed to leverage their time (replacing their income within 3 months). The sum total of their experience (100,000 articles, 1000 websites, a 30 person SEO team in India). Introducing….

Outsourcing Experts
Daniel Turner and Marc Lindsay are two switched on gents who really understand outsourcing. They run a multi-million dollar business from a small office in Queensland Australia. On this conversation I asked Daniel all sorts of questions I imagined you would like to ask him if you had the chance to get some coaching from him.

Categorize
They break down the online outsourcing into four main categories. (Design, Content, Traffic, Programming). Each of these elements need to be managed as a separate business unit. By setting up team managers the team can be managed effectively with cutting edge software. Daniel and Marcus have developed a business management tool however in the audio Daniel lists alternatives that have since become available.

Where to start?
Once you decide to outsource you can either use an outsourcing management company or you can learn the more advanced outsourcing techniques and do it yourself through a talent aggregation website.

How much should you pay?
You should avoid dealing with the lowest bidder. Also you should be avoiding automatic bidding companies (people who reply to every job without even reading the brief). Look for people with experience in the exact field you are requiring. Check feedback and ratings to make sure they were rated for the same type of work you are requiring. Make sure they are responsive prior to getting the job.

Advanced tip
Post small jobs first to select a few people to do it and then scale up with the winning supplier. If you get a few people to complete the same small job you will be minimizing the risk over the long term.

How do you pay outsources?
Keep the money in the system you are using. So if the network you use (like RentaCoder) uses escrow then continue to use that. If you branch out to friends and referrals from your original designer you may wish to use Paypal or a direct debit / International Bank transfer.

What mistakes should you avoid?
Software is one of the hardest things to get done for you. Daniel works with the rule of 3 to 6. Software usually costs 3 times more than quoted and 6 times longer than quoted! The other common mistake is to delay outsourcing too long. If you value your time then you really need to outsource as soon as possible. Start out small and start early.

On a limited budget?
Pay a little bit more and do your diligence. Spend a little bit more and make sure you have a chance of getting the job back. Post the small jobs to a few people at first and then run with the winners. Measure the results early and go with the most effective supplier. Write great descriptions for your jobs.

What things should you do your self and what should you outsource?
Strategic stuff and relationships should be done by you. If it is tactical stuff like FTP, design, content, traffic, programming, help desk can all be outsourced. Spend your time on your marketing. Look for ways to use system. Anything you hate should be outsourced!.

Is it bad to do things your self?
In the beginning it is ok to do stuff yourself. The trick is to get your outsourcing in motion as soon as you can re-invest in your business. Make sure you record the processes so that you can give the recordings to your outsource worker. This leverages your time. Daniel steps us through his action plan as if he was starting from scratch. Within a week he would be bringing in affiliate commission to re-invest in content. The next investment he would make would be design.

Look to your personal life first to free yourself up for your business
One key to building your business is to outsource the stuff you do at home. Here is a list of some of the things you might look to get others to do for you both at home and in your business:

Saves you stress time energy and money. That is what system means to me. If you can make a great system you also have a commercially viable product that others will be interested in. Make sure you set your business up as a system so that it is easy to run. If you are not spending time on the mundane stuff. Look at structuring deals with others to leverage your skills with others. Equity shares allow you to build profit systems for others while you do the things you enjoy the most.

Thing 1 – Be outrageous
Dean Hunt reckons it is ok to go against the norm a little with your marketing and who am I to argue. He is known for outrageous marketing stunts such as selling himself for $1,000,000! (Advertising space on his T-Shirt that is).

Thing 2 – Innovate
In the interview with Dean we learn about creativity and innovation. Basically you can steal other peoples creative genius and use it as your own by giving it a little twist. (Be sure to take full credit Dean mentions!). Take the most popular beliefs and poke fun at them. Bend and stretch norms into creative hooks to compel your audience.

Thing 3 – Always / Never
Dean mentioned a great technique to discover the way to stand out from the crowd in your industry (even if you are a plain old accountant). Thing 4 – Market Research
Dean mentions his top three resources for getting a window into viral traffic. These three sites are Digg.com, Delicious.com and Stumble.com. You can take the leading stories from there and craft your own version of that.

Thing 5 – How to write killer content
Dean writes for himself instead of search engines. If the content speaks from his heart he feels as though it will be more compelling to others.

Thing 6 – The sneaky little headline writing secret
The great technique for getting a really awesome headline is to write the content FIRST then do the headline last. You should have a strong feeling for the theme of the content by the end of the writing phase.This makes perfect sense and allows you to weave a good hook for the story.

Thing 7 – The world is your swipe file
Everything you observe as you conduct your life can provide ‘blueprints’ for effective buzz marketing. The key is to see everything as a technique you can repeat for yourself. Hence the world provides examples for you to model from. If something sparks your imagination then you have to ask how and why. Put that element into your own marketing and watch the results!

If you use the names of the speakers and also some Geo (area) targeted PPC you can make good sales. This can easily cover travel costs. Many events have ticket prices from $197 to $10,000. Commissions can be thousands. (It does not have to be just an Internet Marketing Event).

2) Attend an event and take notes. If you do that you can implement the lessons and make great profits to be able to fund a trip. I went to a local event first ($97 ticket) and turned that information into a six figure business.

3) Promote the speakers products. Use launch affiliate commissions to fund your trip. Find out who is speaking and sell the products they have online. They are out there generating buzz and being advertised. Ride the wave!

4) Speak at the event! If you speak at an event you are usually either payed to be there or you can sell your program after your presentation. This is a great way to travel anywhere in the world you like. It is a little more work however you can make a tidy profit. If you are starting out down this path try speaking for free to your local internet marketing group or business group. I did. Next you can speak at a workshop for someone else and then get on a bigger stage!

5) Run your own event. This is a HOT thing to do right now and all you need to start with is a few clients willing to be trained for a day or two. If you can sell workshops (from stage or webinars) you can self fund your trips to other places. Venue hire is cheap and you can leverage the event with video and a DVD.

6) Meet others at event and do Joint Ventures. This has resulted in Millions of dollars for many people. I was speaking with Jeff Johnson yesterday and he mentioned that ALL his guru buddies were people he met at events. I can vouch for the power of personal networking at these events.
