SEO Site Review Video Including Tips On How To Get Paid To Improve SEO Rankings For Local Business Owners

This video was in answer to a forum question posted on the warrior forum yesterday. Jim wanted to know how to do a camtasia SEO critique when approaching a local business for internet marketing consulting (as per the popular 'offline gold' trend). I offered to do an example SEO video for his own site. The video is free with no opt-in required for viewing. My aim is to help as many people as possible with this part of the 'offline' local business formula.

The cool seo firefox extension mentioned in the video is free and is called SEO Quake. It really helps with a visual display of the main SEO statistics for a site as you visit it.

If you want to get into a professional level of search engine optimizing pages (and generating custom reports) I use and highly recommend this optimizer software.

A very precise and comprehensive walk-through of the process for analyzing a website for better search engine ranking. Thanks for the SEOquake tool tip too.

Great job.

Let me know how you like the tool!

Martin Luxton @ 12:15 pm

Hi James

Useful video. Thanks.

BTW, I already use SEO Quake and on some sites the bar doesn't display at all. Do you know why that is?

Martin

James @ 2:27 pm

Hi Martin,

I use the bar on the page option and it seems pretty active. Some sites may block spy tools….

7Something.com @ 3:42 pm

James,

What do you think about all the controversy over the tracking for http://adsspy.com/ that is now built into the seoquake plugin.

Seems many people are upset about the tracking of the sites PID's for adsense and the other advertising networks. Here is a link to the comments about the addition of adsspy.com

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/reviews/display/3036

Your thoughts?

Thanks

I love SEO quake and use it all the time. This is great stuff and the pointers are very critical info.

Thanks James

Andrew Pearson @ 10:13 pm

Awesome stuff from you as usual James, seoquake is a great tool, I use it all the time,

Cheers,
Andrew.

Deb @ 12:54 am

James,

Thank you for this useful video. I didn't realize that keywords capped weren't counted as separate. Do you use any special numbers when you put words in quotes to determine if it's too competitive or do you basically check the factores you listed to see if it's viable?

James @ 1:47 am

Hi Deb,

If a market is really competitive then it just takes more time and effort so the returns have to be better (and they usually are).

For example:

I know if a quotes search returns 200,000 or less results then page one is a fast possibility. For affiliate campaigns or local business jobs it should be low volume.

If it is in the millions (like golf or health)it can take a little longer and will require great keyword research, excellent website structure, more links and more content.

James

Hi 7something,

RE:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/reviews/display/3036

Your thoughts?"

- It does not bother me. I have been using it long enough to get great results from it. It is the easiest way to gather essential data in one hit.

As the developer mentions you can adjust the settings so that it loads only when you request.

Another thing I do is use different browsers for different things. Firefox is my "work" browser.

I use Safari for screen shots becuase it renders better, and Explorer to browse normal sites and to see what sites look like to most people - since most people still use it.

I don't have SQ installed on IE.

Joe S. @ 3:31 am

Hi James,

I'm having trouble watching the video. It sticks right about the 2:45 mark and it won't fast forward or play past there.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Joe

James @ 4:49 am

Hi Joe,

It is ok for me in a few different browsers.

I hope it works for you.

Hello James,

Thanks for the great info, finally it becomes a little bit clear what it is all about.

I bookmarked this page, because it will take a few times watching, before it really sinks in.

But could you please talk a bit louder in the next video ?

Cheers,

JanPaul

James @ 10:44 am

Sure JanPaul, I'll crank up the volume a little for the next one!

James

Great advice James!

I watched your video twice, and made some of the easy changes you recommended like page title, shortening the page, replacing the image text for regular text, and removing the double keywords.

I watched it again today and have a couple linking questions for you.

You recommended I create a blog, add it to my website, put articles on the blog, and link back to my site.

1. Would you buy a separate name for the blog, like estateplannngsecretsblog.com?

2. Do the search engine care if I create a wordpress blog using a tool in cpanel and uploading it to my hosting company, or is it ok to just go to wordpress and start a blog? The reason I ask is twofold. I know how to do the second, but have not tried the first.

3. I think your video would be instructive to my friends on the forums I visit. Is it ok to post the address of your video on wf and localbizbuilders.com?

Thanks for all your help

Jim Stiner

Joe S. @ 3:53 pm

Hi James,

I got it to play this morning. Very good info, as always.

Could you please explain or even create a short video on how to do an htaccess redirect using XsitePro? That's something that I need to do too and I'm stumped. I read an article written by Jerry West that explains how to do it, but, not in XsitePro and for whatever reason, I'm not grasping it.

I'm sure I'm not the only one with this problem. I'd really appreciate it.

Regards,

Joe

James @ 10:52 am

Hi Jim,

Here are my answers:

"1. Would you buy a separate name for the blog, like estateplannngsecretsblog.com?"

I would just create a folder on your domain and call it either "news" "articles" or "blog. Then install a Wordpress blog there using the "fantastico" feature in C Panel. most great hosting companies have this.

I recommend http://www.ClickHereForHosting.com).

"2. Do the search engine care if I create a wordpress blog using a tool in cpanel and uploading it to my hosting company, or is it ok to just go to wordpress and start a blog? The reason I ask is twofold. I know how to do the second, but have not tried the first."

You want the blog on your site to build authority for your own site. Try going to C Panel, select "fantastico" then "wordpress" and follow the prompt. You need ti install the blog in a directory called /blog or similar so that you dont wipe y our site. There are lots of wordpress tutorials out there if you google it.

"3. I think your video would be instructive to my friends on the forums I visit. Is it ok to post the address of your video on wf and localbizbuilders.com?"

Post links to this blog wherever you like - I made it public so that we can help more people.

James

I have been using the Alexa Sparky 1.2.1 add-on to gather data, but the SEO Quake toolbar gives many more analytics.

Great job on the video. I like your clarity and pace.

Hello James,

The use of video to show possible ways to improve driving traffic and converting the traffic is ALWAYS useful info. Showing someone is far more valuable than telling them!

What would mean more to me is a further, more in depth, explanation of the components (the elements) of SEO Quake. That's the little squares that show stats in the SEOQuake bar. Like… what do they mean; how are they important; and what's to do to fix them or improve upon each? What to look for? What to shoot for? As wells as … what not to do? These are vital to raising the bar.

Yes, U showed a little of this. More of the ice berg needs to be revealed.

Perhaps this might be a lengthy question to answer. But, it would certainly be worthy and valuable to anyone who truly wants to master improving a site.

A webinar would be nice where u could take some questions.

Speaking of webinar, what's become of the one for putting videos in XSP?

Look forward to your reply.

Thanks,
